5 Things to Know About The Venture Mentoring Team


This week Media Advisor, Christine Caven, sat down with Bob Nelson, Co-Founder and CEO of The Venture Mentoring Team (The VMT) to learn more about their services and how they help entrepreneurs.

  1. The VMT is a nonprofit educational 501(c)(3) dedicated to fostering the startup community by training and credentialing Mentors and then connecting them with the best and brightest entrepreneurs to help startups reach their full potential.

  2. The Venture Mentoring Team is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion as core values. They appreciate and leverage mentor backgrounds, experiences and cultures, and they involve and reflect the communities, universities and startups they support.

  3. They require mentors to have a VMT certification. VMT Certification assures that mentors attain the highest standards of mentoring skills and provide entrepreneurs with the best possible mentoring in a safe environment. Potential VMT mentors go through an evaluation process that starts with a background review and six interviews by the VMT Membership Committee comprised of our most experienced mentors. Mentors sign a Code of Conduct and experience eight hours of training and twenty hours of side by side mentoring in a team environment before being designated a VMT Certified Mentor.

  4. Startups interested in mentorship can view certified mentors on the VMT website. All of the mentors are volunteers and offer their time and talent to help foster the growth of startups. They have been fully trained in the VMT Mentoring Process and are VMT Mentor Certified ©.
