Last Thursday, PS27 Investment Analyst, Nick Guerrero, PS27 Director of Communications, Christine Caven, and UNF Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Assistant Director Kara Barber, attended startGNV’s Annual signature event celebrateGNV at the Cade Museum in Gainesville’s Innovation District. Below are our Top 5 Highlights from the day and a photo gallery from the event.
1) Attending OneSixOne Ventures Workshop at UF Engineering
We started the day by shadowing Professor Lawrence Tinker’s class on Engineering Innovation with a presentation by our friends, Pablo Casilimas and Justis Mendez, co-founders of OneSixOne Ventures. The workshop “How to come up with good startup ideas” featured success stories including PS27 Rhea Fund Company, RYZE Superfoods, who graduated from the OneSixOne program in 2020.
After the presentation we connected with startGNV Board Members, Dr. Melissa Mae White, and UF Engineering Student, Seyi Oluwaleimu, to learn more about Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering.
2) Visiting Albert and Alberta at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium
3. Having a Delicious Lunch at Sublime Tacos in the Gainesville Innovation District
4. Touring UF Innovate Accelerate
After lunch, we were graciously welcomed by Lauren Asmus and Courtney Janka of UF Innovate Accelerate for a top to bottom tour of The Hub. We had a behind-the-scenes tour of the startup companies in their 48,000-square-foot facility.
As of 2021, they have 68 companies located in the building that have launched and commercialized 98 products, according to their Annual Client Economic Impact Report. From e-commerce, and SasS, to health tech, and biotechnology companies, UF Accelerate is home to a wide diversity of startup founders.
5) Networking with Gainesville Tech Professionals at celebrateGNV
We ended the day with networking at celebrateGNV; a toast to the Gainesville Innovation community. Over 200 attendees gathered at the Cade Museum for a sit-down dinner and presentation of the Cox Business awards. PS27 is a proud sponsor of startGNV a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to growing the innovation ecosystem of Greater Gainesville.
