Nationally renowned public speaker and Founder of the Women Empower Expo, Alexa Carlin, will be coming to Jacksonville on March 8th, 2018 to speak at the PS27 Female Founders Forum. Get to know Carlin with these five questions…
1. Where did you go to college and what was your favorite class?
University of Florida. Favorite class: Public Speaking!
2. What is your number one tip to women entrepreneurs right now?
Go for it. Don’t wait until everything is in place or it’s the “safest” time to get started on pursuing your passion. There is so much opportunity out there to create the things you want to create and live the life you dream, but the key is to get started.
Also- don’t be afraid to ask for help from other women! We are in a time where women are focused on empowering one another. The more we can help others succeed, the more we succeed. There’s enough room for all of us to be successful!
3. What is your favorite show on Netflix and why?
Girlboss. The show is inspired by Sophia Amoruso’s story on how she built the multi-million dollar fashion empire, Nasty Gal. I love seeing how other people turned their ideas into reality and the behind the scenes of the journey.
4. How do you stay focused while running your own business?
It’s very hard to stay focused when I have so many different things i’m passionate about and ideas I want to execute on and I find a lot of women can relate to this. We want to write that book, sell that company, create that app, start a Vlog and still have time for a social life and family. What has helped me is prioritizing my passions and knowing that I CAN accomplish it all, just not all at the same time.
I like to call it my domino effect. What is the one big thing that will help make the other things on your list easier to achieve? I then focus on that first and the rest follows.
Another thing that helps me stay focused… To do lists! 😉
5. What’s the best advice you ever received?
Be confident in who you are.
My mom would always ingrain confidence in me and my sister growing up, and while I went through many periods of self-doubt and low self-esteem, just like i’m sure all of us do, I’m now able to see how confidence really does breed success. You must must must believe in yourself and be confident in who you are in order to achieve what you want.
