This year, for the first time, PS27 Ventures organized Female Founders Forum – an exclusive event for women entrepreneurs only.
The Forum consisted of two sessions which began with Delores Kesler, who shared her wisdom with 25 curious entrepreneurs. A few thoughts Delores shared with the participants included:
- “If you haven’t made any mistakes, well, get ready, because you’re going to make some”
- “When the student is ready, the master will come
- “Pick the right team members”
- “How ever big your company gets, you are the culture”
- “There is no substitute for hard work”
Delores also admitted that she was never afraid to hire someone smarter than her – and that listening to your inner voice can sometimes be more helpful than analyzing hard arguments.
After a lunch break the female founders participated in a panel discussion with Dana Stallings and Kay Nichols. Stallings – a serial founder and owner of a few business in Jacksonville, is probably most known for Kilwins Chocolates: Fudge, Ice Cream store. Nichols background includes founding a mobile payment company, ended up selling to FIS and is now successfully retired and thinking about starting another business soon. Both Dana and Kay shared their experiences with the entrepreneurs, who were also asking them questions, which became a peer discussion.
Following the event Dana was interviewed by Jacksonville Business Journal – to view the article click here.
The event was sponsored by Advos Legal – strategic legal counsel for entrepreneurs, a law firm founded and led by two women Gwen Griggs and Whitney Harper.
